What is Sogetsu Ikebana?
“Anytime, Anywhere, Anything, by Anyone.”
Ikebana is the art of arranging flowers, Japanese style. Sogetsu is a style of Ikebana, one of many, but unique. Sogetsu is an ikebana of no limits, in which plant materials of any type are displayed anywhere, and by anyone. It is up to the aesthetic awareness of the individual ikebana artist to compose the materials, choose their most beautiful aspects, arrange them, and endow them with a value or feeling transcending that which they had in nature. The students of Sogetsu are encouraged to create sculptural compositions that are individualistic and imaginative
What We Do
Workshop topics include a variety of themes from the basic principles to “how to demonstrate”.
Exhibits are held to showcase members’ skill and creativity.
Demonstrations are held by members and guests from out of town or abroad, and may be as simple as a 15 minute demo to a 90 minute grand display.
Arrangement by Christine Donck-Guelton
